Acclaimed saxophonist, MarQuis Hunt, is curating and hosting the month-long Sessions "Jazz in July All-Stars" series at South on Main each Wednesday in July.
This series features five performances by the area’s stars in the field of jazz with such notable artists as MarQuis & MOOD, the Ted Ludwig Trio, John Bush, Cameron Ross, Timothy Woods and many other special guests. The five performances are very different and each offers a unique variety of jazz. True jazz fans will not want to miss the opportunity to attend the entire series. Coltrane fans will not want to miss the John Bush tribute to John Coltrane show on July 17th.
The shows begin at 8 PM. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Dinner and cocktails are available before and during the show. Your ticket guarantees admission, but does not guarantee a table. It is advisable to call 501-244-9660 to reserve a table subsequent to purchasing your ticket. These shows are expected to sell out; advance tickets are recommended to avoid disappointment.
MarQuis Hunt Biography
MarQuis & MOOD are led by the acclaimed smooth jazz saxophonist, MarQuis Hunt. MarQuis is a Stellar Award nominated recording artist most noted for his expertise playing soprano saxophone, but he is equally gifted on alto and tenor sax. He has performed, written and produced for Grammy and Dove Award-nominated albums. With an impressive résumé, MarQuis has shared stages and performed on albums with Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Backstreet Boys, Fred Hammond, Ben Tankard and many notable others.MarQuis was recognized and nominated as Best Jazz Artist by the Central Arkansas Music Awards. He is recommended by the Arkansas Arts Council and is a member of the prestigious Arts on Tour program.
MarQuis' brand of jazz ranges from spirited and high energy to soulful, sultry and smooth. He named his band MOOD because that is what his music does… it creates a mood that allows the listener to be transported to a place without cares or stress.
