New LR-based theatre company Firebrand Theatre Co presents its inaugural production: Yasmina Reza’s Tony-Award-winning play Art.
When Serge buys a painting—a solid white canvas with three, white diagonal lines—for 200k francs, Marc cannot help but question his judgment. When Serge and Marc drag Yvan into the dispute, the three long-time friends discover there’s much more at play here than a mere difference of taste. What begins as a quarrel over artistic merit devolves into a heated appraisal of their friendship itself, and the three men experience how easily a simple disagreement can turn personal.
A painting is the springboard for the story of Art. As such, Firebrand Theatre Co is creating its own gallery space during the run of Art at Cranford Co in which the audience can view the works of local visual artists. With the "Firebrand Art Gallery,” Firebrand seeks to provide a venue in which local artists can show and sell their works and endeavors to foster the growth of an interdisciplinary artistic community through which the various artists of central Arkansas may create works and engage audiences together.
(All proceeds from the sale of artistic works at the Firebrand Art Gallery go directly to the artists. Firebrand does not act as agent for the artists or for any of the works shown.)
The Firebrand Art Gallery will be open Feb. 6-8, 2020, at 7pm nightly, with the performance of Yasmina Reza’s Art to follow at 7:30pm.
