Join our new Playwriting class for Teens!

This course will explore creating a script, developing compelling characters, and writing dialogue. As the fundamental component of theatre, film, and television - playwriting is critical. How does a writer create a memorable character? How do you know what to edit down? How do you start writing? Enhance your creative writing skills in a workshop setting with others!

This course is open to current high school students (grades 9-12). Participants will be able to hear their scripts read out loud during the final class session in a reading with actors.

Instructor for the course is Shelby-Allison Hibbs. Hibbs is the Executive Director at The Studio Theatre and previously taught playwriting, acting, and directing at The University of Texas at Dallas. She participated in the Dallas Playwright's Workshop with Dallas Theater Center and has won awards for her playwriting work. She has also devised plays with UT Dallas and Cry Havoc Theatre.

This course begins on January 2. We will meet five times, weekly on Sunday afternoons from 2pm-4pm.

Class dates are January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Participants should bring either a laptop or tablet to the class meetings.

Covid-19 protocols: We are requiring participants to present their Covid-19 vaccination card upon arrival to the first class.
