A one-of-a kind day trip by bus from Little Rock to Fort Smith featuring readings from the novel by actress Joey Lauren Adams, history and background by Charles Portis expert Jay Jennings and rangers from the Fort Smith National Historic Site and music by Smokey & The Mirror

events marking the landmark anniversary of

Charles Portis’s masterpiece novel.

Departs Little Rock at 9 a.m. @ Ray Winder Field Parking Lot

Departs Fort Smith at 4:30 p.m.

We’ll visit the Fort Smith National Historic Site, including locations familiar to readers, such as the gallows, Judge Parker’s courtroom, and the riverbank where Mattie Ross crossed on Little Blackie. (Wear comfortable walking shoes!)

Bonus: a survey of Fort Smith’s famous murals.
